Summer is back with a blog takeover! Today, we’re sharing entertainment recommendations from Summer, our resident lifestyle influencer. Like many of us, she’s focused on keeping herself and her family entertained, engaged and with some fun & sanity peppered in! To guide us through the mayhem of May, Summer is sharing her Top 6 Entertainment Picks!

Being cooped up with your entire family non-stop have you looking for things to do? I am here to help! It’s time to get creative, introspective, and break out some games and puzzles. Here are a few things that have been getting my crew through this pandemic.

1. What Do You Meme? Game

For those over the age of 17, this game is sure to get you through the rest of these socially distant times with a whole lot of laughter. Each player chooses the best caption or phrase for the MEME presented, and the judge decides whose caption is the funniest. You won’t believe how much fun this game is and you will be playing it long after the restrictions are lifted.

2. Dammit Doll

If there has ever been a time for the Dammit Doll, it is now. When your child gets snappy, and your husband is acting crappy, pull out your dammit doll and smack it on a hard surface. It’s cheaper than therapy and only takes a few seconds. In my opinion, it can even be counted as exercise!

3. Watercolor With Me: In The Forrest

Last summer, my children and I fell in love with this incredible book. Dana Fox provides beautiful illustrations of whimsical dogwoods, foxes and squirrels, among many other things, on quality paper for you to create incredible watercolors. I have never done this in my life and was surprised at how satisfying and fun it was! She teaches watercolor techniques–wet-on-dry, wet-on-wet, painting fur and ink and washing that are doable for children and parents alike. This book makes an artist out of everyone

4. Summer Says Journal Collection

This collection of journals is perfect for writing down your thoughts or introspections while we have a little more interior space in which to dwell without long commutes and hustling children to school and practice. I am using them to compile a literary ‘bible’ of sorts, which will house all my favorite poems, writings, and quotes. It’s the perfect time to create some new and lasting rituals.

5. Harry Potter Clue

Oh the hours this game has passed for our family!  One of my children has yet to even delve into the world of Harry Potter, but no matter! Having read the books is not a requirement to enjoy this activity. This game, above all others, has been a savior for me!

6. Little Feminist Puzzle

This puzzle is one of my favorites, not only for its impossibly cute illustrations but mainly because as you fit the pieces together, it will spark conversations about the trail-blazing women who have made an incredible impact on the world. This special puzzle is something that will sustain you through the long days of summer with no camps, and your children will remember for it years to come!

I have banged my Dammit Doll against my kitchen counter more often than I care to admit in the past couple of months– so often that it now permanently lives in the jar with the kitchen utensils. In times when we are trying to keep everything afloat, our emotions still have to come out somehow. We need outlets for anger, outlets for sadness, outlets for creativity: Summer’s list gives us that. Whether you’re sharing laughs with your kids over Harry Potter Clue or voraciously writing about your new normal in your journal, Summer’s Top Picks provide entertainment for this spring season.
