It is both heartbreaking and an honor to be able to write about Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who at the age of 87, has passed away.

The Supreme Court announced the Justice's passing in a statement saying that she died at her home in Washington, D.C. while surrounded with her family.

"Our nation has lost a justice of historic stature," Chief Justice John Roberts said. "We at the Supreme Court have lost a cherished colleague. Today we mourn but with confidence that future generations will remember Ruth Bader Ginsburg as we knew her, a tireless and resolute champion of justice."

Ginsburg served on the United States Supreme Court for 27 years, through several bouts of cancer, chemotherapy, and the loss of her husband. She worked until her dying day. She was the second woman, and the first Jewish woman, to serve in the Supreme Court, and she was lauded for being a champion of women's rights.
