Reese Witherspoon has announced her June Picks! This month, Reese’s Book Club will be discussing two books: fiction title, The Guest List and memoir, I’m Still Here. Both will be read simultaneously over the course of June and July. Double the books, double the fun!

Today we are diving into I’m Still Here, Austin Channing’s eye-opening account of growing up black, Christian, and female in middle-class white America. This memoir is a powerful statement of how and why our actions so often fall short of our words.

Austin writes in breathtaking detail about her journey to self-worth and the pitfalls that kill attempts at racial justice, in stories that bear witness to the complexity of America’s social fabric–from Black Cleveland neighborhoods to private schools in the middle-class suburbs, from prison walls to the boardrooms at majority-white organizations.

I’m Still Here could not be a more relevant or timely piece. Reese hopes Austin’s story aids “unity and understanding through the lens of storytelling” to our present day conversations. In the comments below Reese’s Instagram post, Brene Brown echoes Reese’s words, calling I’m Still Here “one of the most important books [she’s] ever read!” We can’t wait to start reading!
