Former First Lady, Michelle Obama is coming to Netflix on May 6th! Her 90-minute Netflix special, appropriately titled Becoming, will give viewers insight into her experience releasing her memoir of the same name. Released in late 2018, her intimate memoir, Becoming instantly became a #1 New York Times Bestseller, an Oprah’s Book Club Pick, and won the NAACP Image Award. A work of deep reflection and mesmerizing storytelling, her memoir invites readers into her world, chronicling the experiences that shaped her–from her childhood on the South Side of Chicago to her years as an executive balancing the demands of motherhood and work, to her time spent at the world’s most famous address.
With the premiere of her Netflix documentary, we will now get an inside look at her experience of debuting a book of this scale. On Instagram, Michelle writes about her new project, saying “those months I spent traveling—meeting and connecting with people in cities across the globe—drove home the idea that what we share in common is deep and real and can’t be messed with. In groups large and small, young and old, unique and united, we came together and shared stories, filling those spaces with our joys, worries, and dreams. We processed the past and imagined a better future. In talking about the idea of ‘becoming,’ many of us dared to say our hopes out loud.”
May 6th can’t come soon enough!
