The Eyes Are the Best Part by Monika Kim
If you are searching for a disturbing book that slowly shows a young girl falling into madness and a grotesque obsession for eyeballs, this book is perfect. This book is a perfect mix of psychological horror and female rage which leaves you wanting more. Monika Kim's debut novel is a spiral of ignorance, misogyny, broken families and of course the disturbing horrors of a dark mind.

The House That Horror Built by Christina Henry
This book is so creepy and compelling throughout, and really keeps you guessing. The descriptions of the movie memorabilia add to the gothic tone of the book. I feel like I was really rooting for the main character to find out what was happening in the house, and I was kept engrossed by her few out of body experiences. I'd love it if this one was made into a movie. The old Chicago house itself was a memorable character in the book as well. I highly recommend this horror title to anyone who loves old movies or modern horror mysteries.

The Haunting of Ashburn House by Darcy Coates
One of my absolute favorite authors ever. Darcy Coates has the ability to always keep you on your toes when you are reading her novels. In The Haunting of Ashburn House, Adrienne moves into the house left to her by a long lost relative with her cat, Wolfgang. While Addy is getting used to the house, she can't help but feel as though she is under a constant watchful eye. Diving deep into the history of the house Addy realizes she may not be alone and tries to solve the mystery of the seemingly undead ghosts wandering her home. One of the best thrillers ever made in my opinion and the twists and turns in this book will leave you wanting to read more of her work.

Tomie by Junji Ito
For all horror fans who may be interested in Anime but haven't tried Manga I need you to give the master of Japanese horror Junji Ito a chance! In his masterful story Tomie, he uses tightly woven storylines moving back and forth through time to tell the story of a young very beautiful teenage girl. But it is much more sinister and she isn't what she seems, and the artwork is terrifying much like Tomie herself. Do you dare to find out her secrets? Truly Junji Ito definitely more than holds his own against western heavy weight writers such as Stephen King, Clive Barker, etc.

What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher
Such a GREAT retelling of Poe's The Fall of the House of Usher. Additionally, Kingfisher even consulted real mycologists while writing this, so the sci-fi element of it is also very good!

My Best Friend's Exorcism by Grady Hendrix
This was a beautiful ode to the power of friendship and the lasting bond between best friends. I think most girls will relate to the deep love that the two main characters share and the feeling of knowing someone else's soul as well as you know your own - even when it has been taken over by a vicious demon.

My Roommate is a Vampire by Jenna Levine
It’s a very cute Romantic Comedy about a girl who needs a place to stay and ends up rooming with a guy who is a vampire who has been in a coma for the past few years and is completely out of touch with the world around him. It’s goofy, funny, and honestly just a good read. The main female character is really relatable, and the vampire roommate is a lovable little goofball.

The Only One Left by Riley Sager
I haven't been on the edge of my seat THIS bad since I was a fifteen year old reading All Around the Town by Mary Higgins Clark! I couldn't stop reading the last third of the book. The sun was setting, and I couldn't stop reading to turn on a light... The book just got closer and closer to my face. I beat the dark though. Not before a couple amazing twists at the end... when you think it's done... It's not!
You can head to your local Books-A-Million to chat with your friendly, neighborhood Booksellers. We’re sure they’ve got the perfect Summerween recommendation, just for you. Happy reading boys and ghouls!
